Chris Pearson

Chris Pearson is a historian specializing in modern French history, with a focus on environmental and cultural history of war and animal history. Formerly an Assistant Professor of French History at the University of Warwick (2010-2012), he holds a PhD from the University of Bristol (2003-2006). His research explores the intersection of nature and conflict in Vichy France, militarized landscapes, and canine history in Paris. He contributed to the AHRC Project 'Militarized Landscapes in Twentieth-Century Britain, France and the United States' and co-edited Militarized Landscapes: From Gettysburg to Salisbury Plain. Current projects include 'Canine City: Dogs, Humans, and the Making of Modern Paris.'

His academic background includes an MA and BA from the University of Bristol and Sussex. He teaches modules such as 'History of France, 1848-1998' and 'Making of the Modern World.'

Publications highlight environmental history of war, including Scarred Landscapes: War and Nature in Vichy France (2008). His work is supported by the British Academy and the AHRC.
