Chris Martin

Dr. Chris Martin is a Senior Lecturer in Neuroscience and Psychobiology and Head of the School of Psychology at the University of Sheffield. His research focuses on neurovascular coupling, neuroimaging techniques, and their applications in understanding brain function and dysfunction. He has led interdisciplinary projects investigating cerebral blood flow, neuropharmacological modulation, and the effects of systemic inflammation on the neurovascular unit.

Qualifications include a BA and PhD, alongside FHEA status. His work spans clinical neuroscience, developmental psychology, and translational research. Notable grants include leadership in the 'Neuroimaging in Cardiovascular Disease (NICAD) Network' and the 'Neuropharmacological Modulation of Functional Brain Imaging Signals' initiative.

Research interests include pediatric psychology (e.g., tele-forensic interviews), neuroprotection (e.g., CNTF gene therapy), and neurovascular dysfunction in diseases like Alzheimer’s and diabetes. He has published extensively on fMRI artifacts, cerebral cooling’s neuroprotective effects, and astrocyte roles in cerebrovascular regulation.
