About
Dr. Chris Klink is a Senior Scientist at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience (NIN), part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), with a guest affiliation at the Vision Institute in Paris, France. His research spans cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging, and brain stimulation techniques to understand visual perception, attention, and neural mechanisms of cognition.
Dr. Klink completed his PhD (Cum Laude) in Functional Neurobiology at Utrecht University, following a MSc (Cum Laude) in Cognitive, Experimental & Clinical Neuroscience and a BSc in Biology from the same institution. He conducted postdoctoral research at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience & Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam, and at Psychopharmacology Utrecht University, with additional experience as a Visiting Scholar at KU Leuven.
His research program investigates how the brain processes information to produce flexible, goal-directed behavior, employing behavioral, computational, neurophysiological, and neuroimaging methods across non-human primates, humans, and rodents. Key areas include visual perception, attention, multimodal integration, neural plasticity, decision-making, working memory, and reward processing. His recent work has focused on visual cortical prostheses, macaque brain development, attentional mechanisms, and consciousness research.
Dr. Klink's publications reveal a strong focus on translational neuroscience, with emphasis on both basic neural mechanisms and potential clinical applications. His work often involves international collaborations, particularly in non-human primate research, and demonstrates a commitment to open science practices as evidenced by his receipt of the Open Data Award.

As an active mentor, Dr. Klink provides guidance to students on thesis development and research methodology, emphasizing the importance of incorporating feedback throughout the research process. He is involved in significant collaborative initiatives including PRIME-DRE (global collaboration in non-human primate neuroscience) and ArtNeuro, demonstrating his commitment to both scientific rigor and creative science communication.
Dr. Klink maintains active participation in professional organizations including the Dutch Neurofederation, Society for Neuroscience, Dutch Psychonomic Society, American Physiological Society, Vision Science Society, and Amsterdam Brain & Cognition, reflecting his broad engagement with the neuroscience community.
