Chris Erdman

Chris Erdman is an Assistant Professor in the John and Penelope Biggs Department of Classics at Washington University in St. Louis. His research focuses on Roman Republican political institutions and epigraphy, emphasizing the political role of the Roman people in post-Gracchan periods. He holds a PhD in Classics (Ancient History) from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2024).

Research interests include interdisciplinary approaches to Roman political history, with expertise in Greek and Latin epigraphy. Recent work explores legislative assembly procedures and voter communication in Republican Rome. Upcoming projects include a monograph on Roman legislative voting culture.

Awards: Arthur Ross Rome Prize Fellow (2023-2024) at the American Academy in Rome, and Jacobi Student at the Munich Kommission für Alte Geschichte und Epigraphik.
