Chiying Lam is a Lecturer in Community Music and Social Justice at the University of Southampton. She holds a BEd (Honours), MA, and PhD from The Education University of Hong Kong and Royal College of Music, London. Her research focuses on post-colonial discourses in music pedagogy, musicians' practices, and inclusive education. She convenes BERA's Social Justice SIG and serves as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health. Lam co-founded Little Bean Theatre to preserve heritage languages and chairs St Mary Magdalene Church's Music Department.
Recent projects include 'Harmonies of Home' songbank and AI-driven refugee information initiatives. She supervises six PhD students in music-related disciplines. Awards include UK Young Academy membership (2025) and NIHR reviewer roles. Her teaching spans global music education methods and practical pedagogy.
