Chirantan Chatterjee

Prof. Chirantan Chatterjee is a Professor of Development Economics, Innovation, and Global Health at the University of Sussex Business School's Department of Economics. He holds visiting positions at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition (Germany) and Ahmedabad University (India). His research focuses on pharmaceutical economics, global health, technological change, and development economics, with publications in top-tier journals like Management Science and The RAND Journal of Economics.

Education: PhD & MPhil in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, MBA from IIM Calcutta, and B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee.

Research Interests: Development Economics, Technological Change, Pharmaceutical Markets, Global Health Policy, Innovation Policy, and Health Economics. His work bridges empirical industrial organization and public policy, with recent focus on pandemic responses, AI in healthcare, and vaccine innovation strategies.

Key Awards: Campbell & Teller National Fellowship (Stanford, 2018-19), Founding Fellow of Royal Economic Society (UK, 2025), Fellow of Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). He has advised UN agencies, WHO, and the South African government on health policy and innovation strategies.

Teaching & Mentorship: Supervised 5 PhD students and collaborates with global institutions like NUS Singapore and Peking University. Courses include AI & Policy, Innovation Management, and Public Health Economics.
