Ching Ching Tan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies at San José State University. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Nonfiction and an M.A. in Communication Studies from SJSU, and a B.A. in International Studies-Linguistics from UC San Diego.
Her research explores linguistic identity, cultural adaptation, and immigrant experiences through creative nonfiction. Tan's work examines how language shapes personal identity in cross-cultural contexts, particularly focusing on public speaking pedagogy for English learners.
Tan's memoir-in-progress received the RSCA SEED Grant, and her essay 'How Do I Explain Myself' was nominated for the 2023 Pushcart Prize. She has led study abroad programs in China and Finland and serves as a speech consultant for engineering conferences.
