University of Texas Southwestern Medical CenterAbout
Dr. Chieko Mineo is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Department of Cell Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She joined the faculty in 2002 after completing postdoctoral training there following her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Tokyo. Her research focuses on understanding endothelial cell functions in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, including atherosclerosis, diabetes, and antiphospholipid syndrome. She is a Principal Investigator in the Shaul/Mineo Lab, collaborating with Dr. Phil Shaul, and leads the Center for Pulmonary and Vascular Biology.
Education: B.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from University of Tokyo; Postdoctoral training in Cell Biology at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Research Interests: Dr. Mineo studies endothelial cell signaling pathways, particularly the role of HDL receptors (e.g., SR-BI), estrogen receptor non-nuclear actions, and Fcγ receptor interactions in mediating vascular health. Her lab investigates how these pathways influence thrombosis, atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, and pregnancy-related complications. Recent work highlights mechanisms linking cholesterol metabolism, immune responses, and metabolic disorders.
Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work focusing on novel therapeutic targets for antiphospholipid syndrome, HDL-mediated vascular protection, and estrogen's non-genomic effects. Key findings include identifying SR-BI's role in atherosclerosis and FcγRIIB's role in insulin resistance.
Awards:
- Recognized for contributions to vascular biology and metabolic disease research
- Received grants from NIH and other funding bodies
Grants/Advising: Active in securing NIH grants and mentoring students in vascular biology. Her lab supports collaborative research initiatives with the Center for Pulmonary and Vascular Biology.
Labs/Teams: Co-directs the Shaul/Mineo Lab, integrating multidisciplinary approaches to study endothelial cell biology. The lab includes researchers focused on translational cardiovascular and metabolic medicine.
