Chi Li

Chi Li is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Ethnomusicology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She serves as the Director of the UCLA Music of China Ensemble, specializing in erhu performance and Chinese instrumental education.

• B.A. in Chinese Music (erhu) from the Conservatory of Chinese Music, Beijing
• Faculty member at UCLA since 1998

Research & Performance Focus: Li's work bridges ethnomusicology and practical instruction in traditional Chinese instruments, including erhu (two-string fiddle), zheng (zither), dizi (flute), and less common instruments like qin (seven-string zither). Her performances at venues such as Madison Square Garden and the Lincoln Center highlight her role as a cultural ambassador.
