Chengcui Zhang

Dr. Chengcui Zhang is a Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She serves as Director of the Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Laboratory and Graduate Program Director at CIS. Her research spans database systems, multimedia information retrieval, data mining, and machine learning, with applications in medical imaging, disaster response, and astrophysics.

• Education: B.S. and M.S. in Computer Sciences from Zhejiang University; Ph.D. in Computer Sciences from Florida International University.

Dr. Zhang has secured over $3.8 million in grants from NSF, NIH, IBM, and eBay. She has led program committees for major IEEE conferences and served on editorial boards of seven journals. Her awards include the IEEE MUE Outstanding Leadership Award (2010) and eight IEEE IRI service awards (2009–2016).

Recent publications focus on multimodal deep learning for check fraud detection, COPD diagnosis via CT radiomics, ALMA telescope data analysis for star formation, and post-disaster damage evaluation. Her work emphasizes data fusion, parameter-efficient model adaptation, and interdisciplinary applications of computer science.
