Chatchawin Assanasen, M.D., M.B.A., is a Professor of Pediatrics and holds the Children’s Cancer Research Institute Distinguished Chair in Pediatric Oncology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He serves as Associate Chief Medical Officer for UT Health Physicians Ambulatory Services and is a key leader in the Division of Hematology/Oncology. His primary affiliations include the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute and Mays Cancer Center.
Dr. Assanasen’s research focuses on pediatric oncology, cancer control strategies, and global health initiatives. He leads a collaborative program in Southeast Asia, partnering with institutions in Vietnam and Thailand to improve pediatric cancer outcomes. Key projects include developing leukemia treatment protocols, tumor DNA banking, and clinical research infrastructure. His work also addresses fertility preservation, pharmacogenomics, and survivorship care.
His scientific contributions span over two decades, with a focus on chemotherapy toxicity, genomic profiling, and palliative care integration. He has received the Children’s Cancer Research Institute Distinguished Chair award, recognizing his impactful clinical and research contributions.
