About
Charne Furcron is a Visiting Associate Professor in the Creative Arts Therapy Department at the School of Art, Pratt Institute, and an Adjunct Professor at Lesley University’s Dance/Movement Therapy programs. She maintains a practice in dance/movement therapy and counseling and serves as Director of Education and Program Officer for Moving in the Spirit, with over 27 years of involvement.

- MA in counseling from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology
- EdD in counseling psychology from Argosy University/Sarasota
Her research focuses on the intersection of dance/movement therapy, positive youth development, and multicultural competence. She investigates neuromaturation, risky behavior, and creative dance movement’s role in youth programming, emphasizing evidence-based practices and program evaluation.
She has received several awards, including:
- Innovation Award (2019) as Multicultural Diversity Chair for the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA)
- Exceptional Service Award (2020) from ADTA
- Executive Director’s Award (2020) from the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) for IDEA 101 conference sessions
Charne is a founding member of the Southern Chapter of ADTA, serving as past vice-president and treasurer. She chairs ADTA’s Multicultural Diversity Committee and contributes to NDEO’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) committee. Her certifications include Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Board-Certified Dance Therapist (BC-DMT), and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS).
