Charlotte Rolny is a Senior Lecturer and Research Team Manager in the Division of Translational Cancer Research at Lund University, and a Principal Investigator at the Lund University Cancer Centre (LUCC). She serves as Project Manager for the Immuno-Oncology group with a research focus on tumor immunology and Tumor-Associated Macrophages (TAMs).
Her work centers on reprogramming immunosuppressive and pro-metastatic TAMs into anti-tumor phenotypes using molecular biology techniques, mouse models, and patient samples. Current projects investigate TAM crosstalk in the tumor microenvironment, metabolic regulation of TAM phenotypes, chemotherapy efficacy exploitation, and TAM applications as predictive tools in breast cancer and sarcoma.
Her recent Journal of Clinical Investigation publication (2025) examines ACVRL1-mediated monocytic lineage roles in breast cancer metastasis immunosuppression, reflecting her focus on TAM-driven tumor progression mechanisms.
Dr. Rolny leads two major funded projects:
- "Understanding the underlying mechanisms that regulate immune cells to become tumourigenic" (Crafoord Foundation, 2024-2026)
- "Unlocking the Prognostic and Mechanistic Potential of Tumor-Associated Macrophages" (Mrs. Berta Kamprad's Cancer Foundation, 2024-2029)
She actively manages the Immuno-Oncology research group and organizes LUCC events including the Immunology & Tumor Microenvironment Minisymposium (2024) and Breast Cancer Retreat (2025).
