Charlotte E. Jacobs

Charlotte E. Jacobs is an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Director of the Independent School Teaching Residency (ISTR) program at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. She specializes in adolescent development, gender equity, and educational systems transformation. Her work focuses on supporting marginalized youth, particularly Black girls and girls of color, in independent school environments.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Spanish Literature & Language (Columbia University)
• Master’s in Education (Lesley University/Shady Hill Teacher Training)
• Ph.D. in Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education (University of Pennsylvania)

Research Interests:

• Identity development of adolescent girls of color
• Gender-conscious teaching practices
• Anti-racism in educational systems
• Equity in independent schools

Dr. Jacobs co-authored Teaching Girls (2017) and collaborates with schools via the EnGenderED Research Collaborative. She currently studies marginalized students’ experiences in independent schools and systemic anti-racism initiatives.
