Charlotte Brakenridge

Dr Charlotte Brakenridge is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing within the Griffith Business School at Griffith University. With a multidisciplinary background in psychology and public health, she is dedicated to improving worker health and wellbeing through impactful research that addresses organisational systems and workplace cultures.

Her academic journey includes a PhD completed in 2018, focused on reducing sitting time and increasing activity among office workers, and a Master of Organisational Psychology, which enhanced her understanding of job design and leadership in workplace interventions. She began her career as a research assistant in public health from 2010 to 2014, working on interventions for diabetes and breast cancer patients.

Dr Brakenridge's research spans multiple industries and worker groups, including white-collar, blue-collar, and call centre employees. Her work investigates how psychosocial work environments, job characteristics, and organisational culture influence physical and mental health, sedentary behaviour, and inclusion. She employs advanced methodologies such as ecological momentary assessment and systematic reviews to explore within- and between-individual associations in real-time settings.

Her current projects examine the impact of workplace culture on sitting time, the health challenges in high-demand call centre environments, and the role of diversity and inclusion practices in meat processing facilities. A central theme in her research is that effective workplace health interventions must go beyond individual behaviours to address systemic organisational factors.

She is an advocate for early career researchers, emphasizing the importance of finding a research niche, being methodologically versatile, choosing collaborators wisely, gaining experience early, maintaining perspective, and celebrating small wins. Her work aligns with Griffith University's commitment to world-class research contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.
