Charlie Hooker is a Visiting Professor at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), part of its Senior Professoriate. He is a multi-media artist renowned for interactive public sculptures, light/sound installations, and site-specific performances addressing environmental and climatic themes. His work integrates natural phenomena like wind, water, and cosmic rays, often collaborating with scientists, engineers, and institutions such as the University of Reading and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research.
Previously, he served as Course Leader for BA and MA Fine Art programs at the University of Brighton, leading research initiatives and educational frameworks. His practice spans three decades, with UHI housing his archive of works from 1970–2000. Beyond academia, he is a freelance artist and musician in Sussex, drumming for two bands.
Research interests focus on merging art with meteorology, climate change, and astronomy, emphasizing community-scientist collaborations. His teaching spans primary education to PhD supervision, with extensive roles in curriculum development and external examining.
