Charles Vernon serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in Trombone and Performance at DePaul University's School of Music. His distinguished orchestral career includes bass trombone positions with the Baltimore Symphony (1971), San Francisco Symphony (1980), Philadelphia Orchestra (under Riccardo Muti for five years), and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1986.
His educational background features studies at:
- Brevard College
- Georgia State University (with Bill Hill and Gail Wilson)
Mentored by Chicago Symphony legends Arnold Jacobs and Edward Kleinhammer, Vernon specializes in Trombone Performance and Orchestral Repertoire. His artistic contributions include world premieres of Ellen Taaffe Zwilich's Concerto for Bass Trombone (1991) and Christian Lindberg's "Chick a' Bone Checkout" (2006), alongside commissioned song cycles by Eric Ewazen for soprano, trombone, and piano.
Vernon maintains a global teaching presence with appointments at Catholic University, Brevard Music Center, Philadelphia College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University, Curtis Institute, and Northwestern University. He actively mentors students while balancing performance commitments and athletic pursuits as a member of the Evanston Masters Swim Team.
