About
Dr. Charles Pickens is a faculty member in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Kansas State University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Pickens's research focuses on how the brain compensates for dysfunction in specific brain areas, with particular emphasis on thalamocortical circuits. His work examines these mechanisms in models of various neurological disorders using functional neuroanatomy, brain lesions and temporary inactivations, chemogenetics, pharmacology, and behavioral approaches. His laboratory investigates how different brain regions develop alternative strategies when primary neural pathways are compromised.
