Charles Levkoe

Dr. Charles Z. Levkoe holds the Canada Research Chair in Equitable and Sustainable Food Systems at Lakehead University, where he is Professor in Health Sciences. His research examines connections between social justice, ecological regeneration, and democratic engagement within food systems.

Key research themes:

• Community food security and food sovereignty movements
• Agricultural policy and regional economies
• Participatory action research methodologies

He integrates research with teaching through community-engaged learning and place-based action projects.

As Director of the Sustainable Food Systems Lab, he fosters collaborations across North America and Europe. His work informs civil society action and policy development around food as a human right.
