Charis Xinari is an Associate Professor of Critical and Cultural Theory at the European University Cyprus (EUC), affiliated with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. She concurrently serves as an Instructor in the Summer School ‘The Politics of Culture’ at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in English Literature and Gender from the University of Edinburgh, an MSc in English Literature: Writing and Cultural Politics from Edinburgh, and a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Cyprus.
Her research interests span media studies, cultural theory, gender studies, and identity formation in digital contexts. Notably, she explores football's role in shaping cultural identity (e.g., Nicosia derby studies), ICT's impact on individual autonomy, and comparative analyses of European media policy. She has coordinated the EU-funded MediaCoach Initiative (2018-2020) and contributed to the ESF Forward Look project on media literacy.
Xinari serves on editorial boards for Javnost-The Public and Journal of Critical Studies in Business and Society, and was an assistant editor for Cadences. Her work bridges theoretical critique with empirical research, addressing contemporary challenges in media, culture, and gender relations.
