Chardée Galán serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Child Clinical Area at the Pennsylvania State University and is the Director of the Dismantling Racial inEquities Around Mental Health (DREAM) lab.
Her academic credentials include a Ph.D. in a Joint Clinical-Developmental Program from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Galán's research program is dedicated to dismantling racial inequities in child and adolescent mental health through four interconnected pillars: advancing scholarship on cultural-developmental-familial intersections in youth psychopathology; refining measurement of racism-based traumatic stress; developing culturally-grounded interventions leveraging racial-ethnic socialization; and transforming clinical training through cultural humility and anti-racism frameworks. Her work centers on youth of color and emphasizes cultural strengths as protective factors.
The DREAM lab actively investigates how racial-ethnic identity development, discrimination exposure, and socialization processes influence mental health outcomes, while creating evidence-based approaches to disrupt pathways from racial stress to psychopathology.
