Chantalle F. Verna

Chantalle F. Verna is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics & International Relations at Florida International University's Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs. Her research focuses on inter-American relations, particularly US-Haiti dynamics, the African Diaspora, and decolonization. She holds a PhD in Comparative Black History (2005) from Michigan State University, an MA in Urban Studies (2000), and a BA in Political Economy (1996) from Tulane University.

Her work examines post-colonial Haitian sovereignty, Pan-Americanism, and the socio-political impacts of international aid. Key publications include studies on Haitian educational reform and diaspora communities. She has received multiple fellowships, including the Competitive Doctoral Enrichment Fellowship and Mortar Board recognition.

Teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses on Caribbean history, international relations, and US foreign policy. She actively engages in public school teacher training and community outreach, advising on historical preservation and diaspora studies. Verna is affiliated with FIU’s Latin American and Caribbean Studies Center and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives on global histories.
