ChangHwan Kim

ChangHwan Kim is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Sociology at the University of Kansas. His research focuses on socioeconomic stratification, labor markets, race/ethnicity, and quantitative methodology. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin (2006) and has contributed extensively to journals like American Sociological Review, Social Forces, and Korean Journal of Sociology.

Research Interests: Dr. Kim examines socioeconomic polarization, with methodological expertise in panel models and statistical decomposition. His work bridges U.S. and Korean contexts, addressing labor market inequality, immigration impacts, and educational stratification.

Recent Publications Trends: His 2022–2025 work spans unionization’s effect on overwork, gender earnings gaps in Korea, and Asian American educational advantages. Collaborative studies with Andrew Taeho Kim and Matt Erickson analyze pandemic labor impacts and migration patterns.
