Chang-Yu Wu

Chang-Yu Wu serves as Professor and Chair in the Department of Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering at the University of Miami's College of Engineering, with additional affiliation at the University of Florida's Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences.

Dr. Wu's research focuses on environmental engineering with specialization in aerosol science and its public health applications. His work examines airborne transmission of pathogens, indoor air quality dynamics, and ventilation system effectiveness in mitigating disease transmission. His research methodology frequently involves meta-analysis of field data from multiple studies to establish evidence-based conclusions about environmental health risks.

His 2024 meta-analysis in Aerosol Science and Technology analyzed data from 93 studies involving air sampling in hospital and residential settings with known SARS-CoV-2 sources. The research demonstrated that hospital wards generally maintained lower airborne virus concentrations than residential isolation rooms and identified a negative correlation between airborne virus concentrations and air changes per hour (ACH).

Dr. Wu's research has been supported by multiple National Institutes of Health grants including R01AI158868, R01AI158868S1, R21OH012114, and R43AI157123, reflecting the significance of his work in environmental health engineering.
