About
Cesare Bernardo is a Full Professor of Petrography and Petrology at the University of Padua's Geosciences Department since 2011. Previously, he held positions including Associate Professor (2001), Lecturer (1993), and a Research Fellowship at Princeton University (1993). His academic journey includes a PhD in Earth Sciences (1992) and a Geological Sciences degree cum laude (1987), both from the University of Padua.
His research focuses on metamorphic petrology, microstructural analysis, and fluid/melt inclusion studies, with special emphasis on crustal anatexis and low-pressure/high-temperature metamorphism. He has pioneered work on nanomineralogy, scientific photography in geology, and the application of advanced imaging techniques like X-ray microtomography.
Awarded prestigious honors such as the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei's Tartufari Prize (2012) and Fellowships from the Royal Photographic Society (2017) and Geological Society of America (2013), he has also held leadership roles, including President of the Società Italiana di Mineralogia e Petrologia (2014–2015) and Editor of the Journal of Metamorphic Geology (2019). His editorial contributions extend to the Journal of Petrology's Advisory Board.
Bernardo has coordinated major initiatives like the EURISPET European Petrology seminars (2007–2009) and directed the University of Padua's Earth Sciences PhD program (2004–2007). His research spans field studies in the Eastern Alps and Betic Cordillera, integrating mineralogical, geochemical, and structural analyses to unravel crustal evolution processes.
