Cesar Ranero

Cesar Ranero is an ICREA Research Professor at the Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain. He founded and currently leads the Barcelona Center for Subsurface Imaging (BCSI), a multidisciplinary research group focusing on advanced seismic imaging and subduction zone dynamics.

His research centers on fundamental processes of rifting, passive margin evolution, seafloor spreading, and subduction systems. He specializes in complex multi-disciplinary experiments involving seismic imaging, multibeam mapping, and drilling projects to validate competing geodynamic models.

Dr. Ranero's team has produced significant breakthroughs through oceanographic cruises in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Mediterranean regions. His work integrates government and industry-funded projects totaling over 11.5 million euros as principal investigator.
