Cedric Villani

Cedric Villani is a Professor of Mathematics at Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 since 2010 and previously held the same position at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon from 2000 to 2010. He has served as Director of the Institut Henri Poincaré (IHP) in Paris since 2009. His academic journey includes visiting roles at the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton, 2009), University of Berkeley (2004), and Georgia Tech (1999).

He specializes in partial differential equations, optimal transport, and kinetic theory. His research bridges statistical mechanics and functional inequalities. Notable achievements include the Fields Medal (2010), Legion of Honor (2011), and Fermat Prize (2009).
