Cecilio Garriga Escribano is a researcher at the Department of Spanish Studies within the Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), affiliated with the Lexicography, Diachrony, and ELE Group and the History of Science Institute. He earned his PhD in Hispanic Philology from Rovira i Virgili University in 1993 and previously served as Profesor Titular at the same institution (1991–2000).
His research focuses on:
- Spanish lexicography and historical terminology
- Morphology and language evolution in scientific contexts
- 19th–20th century scientific discourse in Spanish
- Cross-cultural terminology transfer (particularly French-Spanish)
He has led 8 major projects including El léxico especializado en el español contemporáneo (2019–2022) and Diccionario histórico del español moderno de la ciencia y de la técnica (2007–2017), funded by Spanish and European agencies. Recent publications (2023–2025) analyze Spanish morphological patterns, historical scientific vocabulary, and the role of press in scientific discourse.
He has supervised 27 academic works and collaborates with international researchers across Europe and Asia.
