Cecilia Chang is the Frederick Latimer Wells Professor of Chinese in the Department of Asian Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Williams College. She specializes in Chinese pedagogy and researches the acquisition of Chinese as a foreign language, focusing on reading in a second language.
- B.A. in Chinese Literature from Fu-Jen University
- M.A. in Applied Linguistics from UCLA
- Ed.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst
Her research interests include Chinese language teaching methodologies, second language acquisition, and reading comprehension challenges in Mandarin learners. She has also contributed to curriculum development for AP Chinese Language and Culture programs and directs the Middlebury Chinese School at Middlebury College Language Schools.
Chang has taught all levels of Mandarin courses at Williams College and occasionally offers courses on applied linguistics. She has held leadership roles in regional and national Chinese teachers associations and served on the College Board's AP Chinese Language and Culture Development Committee from 2011 to 2017.
