Dr. Catriona Oates is Lecturer in Education and MA Programme Lead in the Division of Psychology, Sociology and Education at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. With a background in primary and secondary language teaching, she now focuses on teacher professional development, collaborative practices, and digital literacies in education.
Her research examines teacher professional learning communities, digital technology integration, and collaborative school-university partnerships. Current projects investigate poverty-related attainment gaps through tutoring interventions and reconceptualizing reflective practice in teacher education.
Oates supervises PhD research on intercultural competence in Algeria and inter-professional collaboration between content and language specialists. She volunteers with Scran Academy, supporting disadvantaged youth through hospitality training programs.
