Cathy van Ingen

Cathy van Ingen is Professor of Kinesiology at Brock University's Faculty of Applied Health Sciences. Her research examines relationships between sport, inequality, and social change through scholar-activist approaches.

Research focuses on:

• Trauma-informed physical activity programs
• Gender-based violence in sports
• Boxing as social intervention
• Sport for development and peace
• Documentary filmmaking

Founded 'Shape Your Life' (free trauma-informed boxing for women survivors of violence) and 'Shape Your Life Youth' for traumatized youth. Publications critically analyze sports geographies and community-based interventions.

Teaches qualitative analysis, cultural studies of sport, gender perspectives in sport, and social history of physical education. Professional affiliations include North American Society for Sociology of Sport and International Boxing Research Organization.
