Cathy Binger

Cathy Binger is Professor of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of New Mexico. Her research develops evidence-based approaches to support language development in children using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Research focuses on:

• Semantic/grammatical development in AAC users
• Implementation science in communication disorders
• Valid measurement of aided communication
• Partner training protocols

She collaborates extensively on improving outcomes for children with severe speech impairments. Recent publications address vocabulary development, AAC assessment methods, and intervention design. She co-leads research on symbol learning and sentence production in young AAC users.
