Cathryn Chatburn

Cathryn Chatburn is a Higher Degree by Research Scholar (PhD candidate, part-time) and Industry Fellow at the School of Architecture, Design and Planning, University of Queensland. She concurrently serves as a Casual Academic, bridging academic and industry expertise in urban design. Her research focuses on cost-based decision-making in urban development, emphasizing sustainable outcomes through systems thinking and stakeholder collaboration.

Education includes a First-class honours degree in Landscape Architecture and Postgraduate Diplomas in Landscape Architecture and Urban Environmental Design from Leeds Metropolitan University. With over 30 years of industry experience, she founded Urban Enquiry, specializing in master planning and policy development, earning industry accolades.

Her doctoral research examines how cost-driven decisions impact urban development in South East Queensland, proposing frameworks to enhance sustainable outcomes. She advocates for interdisciplinary, participatory design to address complex urban challenges, emphasizing balance between societal, environmental, and economic needs.
