Catherine V.A. Duke

Dr. Catherine Duke is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton's School of Biology, Chemistry and Forensic Science (Faculty of Science and Engineering), where she has taught since 1992. She specializes in analytical chemistry and quality assurance instruction for Forensic Science, Pharmaceutical Science, and Chemistry programs.

She holds a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry (1983) and D.Phil from the University of York, followed by postdoctoral research at Brock University (Canada) utilizing FTIR, mass spectrometry, and NMR. Her industry experience includes a Teaching Company Associate role at Contract Chemicals Ltd developing heterogeneous catalysts and implementing quality systems.

Research Focus: Her work centers on FTIR spectroscopy applications including:

• Pharmaceutical and cosmetic analysis
• Counterfeit drug identification
• Environmental pollution assessment in water/soil systems

Publications: She has authored educational materials including a textbook on environmental chemistry and a vocational training package on quality control, emphasizing practical analytical methodologies.

Additionally, she earned an honors degree in Geosciences through part-time study with the Open University during her academic career.
