Catherine Sprecher Loverti is a Visiting Professor of German in the Department of World Languages and Literatures at Lewis & Clark College, where she has taught since 2013. She also contributes to the Gender Studies Program and Core curriculum. Previously, she held positions at the University of Zurich, UC Santa Barbara, University of Portland, and Portland State University's Deutsche Sommerschule am Pazifik.
Her research bridges literary studies and linguistics, with expertise in:
- Romanticism & Fairy Tales: German/English literary movements, cultural reinterpretations of folklore, and gender dynamics.
- Linguistics: Speech act theory, philosophy of language, and language acquisition (e.g., children's understanding of irony).

- Critical Theory: Psychoanalysis, life writing, and cultural studies frameworks.
She holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and a Lic.Phil. I from the University of Zurich.
