Catherine Seavitt is Chair of Landscape Architecture and Martin & Margy Meyerson Professor of Urbanism at the University of Pennsylvania's Weitzman School of Design. As Faculty Co-Director of The McHarg Center and Creative Director of LA+ Journal, she examines public space, health, and climate resilience through ecological and multispecies frameworks.
Education: Cooper Union and Princeton University graduate with architecture and landscape architecture credentials. Seavitt's work connects toxicity, post-industrial sites, and plant knowledge to advance climate crisis responses and environmental justice.
Her research has received Graham Foundation grants and Fulbright Fellowship, producing influential books including Depositions: Roberto Burle Marx and Public Landscapes under Dictatorship and Structures of Coastal Resilience. Seavitt serves on the US Army Corps of Engineers' Environmental Advisory Board and previously directed CCNY's MLA program.
Honors include Fellowship in American Academy in Rome, ASLA, and AIA. Her scholarship reimagines landscape practice through historical analysis, policy engagement, and experimental design.
