Dr. Catherine Reid is a Lecturer in Teacher Education at the University of Glasgow's School of Education. She previously served as a secondary school teacher in Scotland for 23 years, specializing in English and Additional Support for Learning. Her research focuses on inclusive education, widening participation in higher education (HE), and the experiences of young people from deprived areas. She holds a PhD in Education from the University of Glasgow, alongside an MEd in Inclusive Education, PGCE in English, and MA in English Literature and Philosophy.
Her research explores how educational structures influence opportunities for gifted students from disadvantaged backgrounds, emphasizing teacher practices and policy implications. She is an active member of the Scottish Network for Able Pupils (SNAP) and contributes to initiatives like the European Council for High Ability as National Correspondent.
Dr. Reid teaches on initial teacher education programs (PGDE, Masters in Inclusion) and leads courses such as 'What if?' in the MEduc program. She has presented at international conferences, including the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children, addressing topics like misrecognition of student potential and improving educational access for marginalized groups.
