About
Catherine LEVISAGE is a Research Director at INSERM and Deputy Head of the Regenerative Medicine and Skeleton (RMeS) laboratory at the University of Nantes, France. She holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from University Paris 11 and completed postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University. Her research focuses on hydrogels and joint regeneration, particularly in intervertebral disc disease and osteoarthritis. She leads projects on bioengineered hydrogels as drug carriers and biofabrication tools. Key roles include coordinating ANR grants on MSC-derived extracellular vesicles and regional programs on hydrogel-based cell therapies.
Education: PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (1999, University Paris 11); Postdoctoral studies at Johns Hopkins (2000–2003). Professional milestones include INSERM tenured positions since 2007 and leadership in international grants like iPSpine and INDEED.
Research Interests: Development of hydrogels for cell/molecule delivery, biomaterials for organogenesis, and advanced bioinks for 3D bioprinting. Her work bridges nanomedicine and regenerative strategies, addressing complex tissue regeneration challenges.
Awards: 2025 Suffrage Science Award in Engineering/Physical Sciences. Her contributions span over 84 publications (h-index 36, 3,400 citations) and 11 patents.
Grants: ANR EXCELLDISC (2020–2024), Regional program SHELBY (2018–2022), H2020 iPSpine (2019–2023), and others. Lab activities include the HEAL group within RMeS, collaborating globally on bioprinting and nanomedicine.
