Catherine Hezser

Catherine Hezser is Professor of Jewish Studies at SOAS, University of London, with a Dr. theol. (Heidelberg) and Ph.D. (Jewish Theological Seminary). Her research examines ancient Judaism within Greco-Roman society, focusing on rabbinic law, slavery, and daily life in Roman Palestine.

Current AHRC-DFG project analyzes rabbinic civil law in dialogue with Hellenistic/Roman jurisprudence. Publications include monographs on social history and the Talmud Yerushalmi's scholastic context. She teaches Jewish studies and comparative ancient law.
