About
Catherine Carr is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Maryland. She directs research on neural mechanisms of sound localization across species including barn owls, alligators, and geckos.
Her laboratory examines evolutionary conservation of auditory circuits, particularly delay-line coincidence detection systems that enable interaural time difference processing. Current projects investigate developmental assembly of sound localization maps and comparative adaptations in reptilian hearing systems.
Teaching includes Principles of Neuroscience and Neuroethology courses. She leads NIH-funded training programs in comparative hearing biology and collaborates internationally on auditory system evolution studies.
