Catherine Boyle is a Professor of Latin American Cultural Studies at King’s College London and serves as the Primary Investigator and Translation Acts Strand Lead for the Language Acts and Worldmaking project. Her expertise spans Latin American culture, theatre, performance, women’s writing, gender, and the intersection of translation with cultural history. She co-founded the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies and led the AHRC-funded Out of the Wings project (2008-2012), which explored collaborative theatre translation between academia and artistic practice.
In 2009, Boyle co-founded the Head for Heights Theatre Company, focusing on theatre from marginalized cultures, and premiered her translation of Juan Radrigán’s Las brutas/Beasts in 2011. Through Language Acts and Worldmaking, she continues to develop interdisciplinary approaches to translation, working with schools, theatre groups, and community organizations to explore concepts like tolerance, mobility, and migration via language and performance.
