Catherine Bayly

Catherine Bayly is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Maryland's Department of English since 2012, specializing in rhetorical writing. She serves as a Faculty Fellow in Academic Writing, focusing on anti-racism pedagogy, justice-oriented teaching, and alternative grading philosophies.

Her teaching emphasizes multimodal composition and the rhetoric of protest and advocacy, particularly in the 1960s. She has also contributed to programmatic assignment design for composition courses and co-edited the poetry collection To Linger on Hot Coals, while maintaining a private writing practice.

Bayly frames rhetoric as performance art, integrating this approach into her classroom. She previously taught College Level and Developmental Writing at McDaniel College and literature courses at Howard Community College.
