About
Catherine BADEL-MELINAND is an Assistant Professor at the University of Strasbourg, affiliated with the Molecular Genetics, Genomics, Microbiology (GMGM) laboratory and the Institute of Physiology and Biological Chemistry (IPCB). Her research focuses on archaeal genomics, evolution, and organohalide degradation mechanisms. She holds a PhD in Biology from Paris-Saclay University (2019) and completed postdoctoral training at Indiana University, USA, under Stephen D. Bell. She is a member of the Archaea Power Hour (APH) organizing committee, promoting European archaeal research networks.
Education highlights include studies at the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Lyon, where she earned a Master’s in BioSciences and held a scholarship (2012-2016). Her work has been supported by grants from the French Ministry of Research and ENS Lyon. Key contributions include studies on archaeal chromosome organization, plasmid evolution, and microbial defluorination. Her team’s ANR-funded projects explore novel bioremediation strategies and microbial adaptation mechanisms.
