Catherine Anne Martin is a Professor and holder of the 14th Nancy’s Chair in Women’s Studies at Mount Saint Vincent University. She is an award-winning filmmaker, community activist, and educator with affiliations including the Millbrook First Nation. Her roles include past Chair of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) and board member during its formative years. She holds a BA in Theatre Arts from Dalhousie University and an MEd in Media Literacy from Mount Saint Vincent University, alongside a certificate in Conflict Negotiation and Mediation.
Her research and advocacy focus on advancing Indigenous and marginalized communities through education, media representation, and policy. Notable contributions include developing programs like the Certificate in Community Health for Indigenous women and the Indigenous Black and Mi’kmaq Law Program at Dalhousie. She also pioneered initiatives at the Coady International Institute focusing on Indigenous women’s leadership.
Ms. Martin’s work bridges artistic expression with social justice, leveraging film and media to amplify Indigenous voices. Her activism emphasizes institutional reform to improve access for First Nations artists and youth.
