Casey Johnson

Casey Rebecca Johnson is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Idaho, specializing in social epistemology and philosophy of language. Her research examines how social position and power affect testimonial knowledge transmission and conversation, with recent work focused on epistemic labor, disagreement, and epistemic injustice.

Johnson has published on topics including illocutionary pluralism, mansplaining, and epistemic vulnerability. Her 2023 book Epistemic Care: Vulnerability, Inquiry, and Social Epistemology develops a novel theory of epistemic obligations using care ethics. Before joining University of Idaho, she was a postdoctoral researcher on the Humility and Conviction in Public Life project at the University of Connecticut.
