Casey Bohlen is the Mellon Visiting Assistant Professor in History and Public Discourse at Smith College. His academic focus includes the history of religion, American social thought, capitalism, and political movements. He holds a PhD in History from Harvard University (2016) and a B.A. from Brown University.
His research explores the intersection of religion and public life, with a current book project, Prophetic Politics, examining the post-1945 'New Social Gospel' movement. He leads the Faith and Social Action Oral History Project, funded by the Social Science Research Council. Bohlen has taught at Bucknell University, Williams College, and Bennington College prior to joining Smith in 2022.
He teaches courses on modern U.S. history, American religious history, and the history of democracy. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary discourse on religion, capitalism, and political ideology.
