Dr. Carsten Jakobi serves as the Acting Director of the German Institute at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, within the Faculty of Philosophy and Philology. His academic career includes roles such as Junior Professor for Modern German Literature (2003-2006) and appointments to the Academic Council (2006, life membership), promotion to Senior Academic Councillor (2010), and Academic Director (2021). He holds a Master's degree (1996) and PhD (2003) from Mainz University, with research focuses on Exile Literature, Enlightenment Literature, literary comedy theory, and interdisciplinary discourse analysis.
Research affiliations include the Society for Exile Research, Anna Seghers Society, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, German Association of Germanists, and Education and Science Union (GEW). As a liaison lecturer for the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, he bridges academic and political spheres. His academic trajectory reflects leadership and specialization in German literary studies with a focus on historical and theoretical dimensions.
