Her research interests include contemporary painting, feminist art, queer art, political art, agitprop, graphic design, and the history of acrylic paint, abstraction, modernism, and painting.
Her artistic practice intertwines with cultural critique, drawing from 20th-century abstract movements and pop culture to create socially engaged works. Articles by Moyer have appeared in Art in America, Artforum, and The Brooklyn Rail, focusing on feminist art, abstraction, and political themes. She has received significant recognition through awards from the Guggenheim and Joan Mitchell Foundations, Anonymous Was a Woman, and Creative Capital.
Moyer’s teaching at Yale and Rutgers Universities, alongside her leadership at Hunter College, reflects her commitment to mentoring emerging artists. Her studio practice, marked by vibrant acrylic and glitter works, is complemented by decades of activism through Dyke Action Machine!—a collaboration with Sue Schaffner that subverted mainstream advertising with lesbian imagery.
