Carolyn Ratteray

Carolyn Ratteray is an Emmy-nominated Associate Professor of Theatre at Pomona College, specializing in storytelling through performance, writing, and directing. She actively contributes to theatrical productions in Los Angeles and beyond.

  • M.F.A. in Theatre, University of San Diego/The Old Globe
  • B.F.A. in Drama, New York University, Tisch School of Arts

Research Interests:
Carolyn focuses on narratives that explore Black joy, theatrical clowning, and the use of humor for human connection and healing. Her one-woman show Both And (A Play About Laughing While Black) and episodic (Un)Claimed exemplify these themes through autobiographical and contemporary storytelling.

Professional Affiliations:
Carolyn is a Resident Artist at A Noise Within Theatre and a member of Antaeus Theatre and Ammo Theatre Company. She teaches acting at Pomona College while maintaining an active career in performance, direction, and writing.
