Caroline Slomp is a Professor in Marine Biogeochemistry at Utrecht University's Faculty of Geosciences, Department of Earth Sciences. She leads research in geochemical processes within marine environments and holds the Chair of Marine Biogeochemistry.
Her research expertise spans Marine Biogeochemistry, Reactive Transport Modelling, and Geochemistry of Groundwater. Professor Slomp's work focuses on improving quantitative understanding of element cycling important to life in marine environments, integrating field and laboratory work with modeling. Her research has taken her to significant marine locations including the Black Sea, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Arabian Sea, North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and Californian Margin, with particular emphasis on low oxygen marine environments in both present and past oceans.

She teaches across multiple programs including Earth Sciences, Earth Surface and Water, Earth Life and Climate, and Marine Sciences. Her research contributes significantly to the university's Pathways to Sustainability initiative.
